Q- Who makes the sock
monkeys?
A- Missus Mel'nee makes each sock monkey herself, in
the Sunnyflower Farm workshop, using a variation or two on the
traditional pattern distributed first by the Nelson Knitting Company,
then by Fox River Mills. Missus Mel'nee's workshop monkey, Veronica,
assists her.
Q- How long have you been making sock monkeys?
A- Since June of 2003.
Q- What is my sock
monkey's name?
A- Your monkey is known only by its unique Sunnyflower Farm number
until such time as you give it a "real" name!
Q- Can I
send this monkey
as a gift?
A- Yes! Just be sure to indicate the gift
"ship to" address and any
message (including the To: and From:) you'd like included on a gift
card in your order email.
Q- Are your monkeys safe
for children and infants?
A- Some of them are, but many are not due to
buttons, etc. This will be clearly indicated in the monkey's individual
description. I generally consider buttons, googles, jewelry, Velcro,
etc., unsafe.
Q-
What does it mean to
put my monkey on reserve? How long can it stay on reserve?
A- This means that we will hold your desired monkey for you for a
particular period before releasing the critter back into the adoption
pool. Maximum reserve times vary by season.
- From Jan-August,
a monkey can be held on reserve for up to 30 days.
- From
September to December, a monkey reserve can last up to 14 days.
PS! We usually shut down the
Adoption
Center for the last two weeks of December.
Q- Do I
have to have a Paypal account to pay for my monkey online?
A- Yes, although this is pretty easy to do.
Just follow the link
on the
invoicing email you receive and you can sign up for a new account on
the spot. This will allow you to make fast, secure online payments
using a major credit card or bank account. (You can also send a check
or money order by mail if you prefer.)
Q- What is Paypal?
A-
Paypal
is an Ebay company which acts as an intermediary for online purchases
between sellers and their buyers, so you can submit credit card or bank
account information to them in order to pay for your purchase from
Daisycara.
Q- Who pays for shipping?
A- Buyer pays for shipping, which is a flat
rate of $7.50 for either one or two monkeys (for three or more monkeys,
charge will be clearly calculated as part of the overall cost in
invoice.)
Q- How
long will it take
to get my monkey?
A- Monkeys are shipped once or twice a week
by USPS Priority Mail, which generally takes 2-3 days.
Q- I live in Columbia-- how do I
qualify for free delivery?
Just let us know! We can usually deliver a sock monkey in person to
folks in Columbia within a day or two's notice. Now through fall, our
normal drop-off hours are between 8 am and 1 pm, with occasional
afternoon deliveries.
Q- Do you ship
internationally?
No, not at this time, due to the international adoption paperwork
involved.
Q- Do you take special
orders for monkeys?
A- Much to Veronica's annoyance, Missus Mel'nee is uncomfortable making
special order monkeys of a very specific nature. She also avoids making
sock monkeys with licensed images and such (hence, no sports monkeys).
However, she will accept requests of general
sorts, such as "baby-friendly monkeys for girl twins," and is always
interested in new sock monkey ideas. So just email
adoptmymonkey@daisycara.com if you have thoughts or questions.
Q- Why do the monkeys cost
different amounts?
A- Each unique monkey was created as the result of a particular
combination of time, materials, and creative effort. Their adoption
fees range accordingly.
Q- How long does it take
to make a monkey?
A- That depends on the monkey! Some take considerably more time than
others.
Q- What size are the monkeys?
A- Most of the monkeys are standard size, made from
size "Large" socks
and measuring about 19" along the backside from tip to toes. Sometimes
Missus Mel'nee makes an extra large or extra small monkey (23" down to
14") and these are marked specifically.
Q- Do you make mini
monkeys?
A- Oh... occasionally. And who knows what will happen this
year?
Q- Do you make just sock
monkey clothes?
A- No, but our friends as S'Monkey's.com DO-- check
Coco's Closet for sock monkey
clothes and accessories.
Q- Can I adopt two of the
same monkey?
A- Each monkey is a unique individual, so it is only possible to
adopt one of any kind. You are certainly welcome to adopt multiple
monkeys at once, though!
Q- How do I clean my sock
monkey?
A- While reportedly, sock monkeys can handle delicate cycle machine
washing, they are actually much happier with a gentle hand-washing. But
in any event-- PLEASE DO NOT PUT YOUR MONKEY IN THE DRYER! This can
cause
significant damage to the sock.
Q-
Where does the monkey's
costume come from?
A- These days, our workshop monkey, Veronica, has been designing a
number of
original outfits for the new sock monkeys. But we occasionally fall for
a nice vintage piece, too.
Q- Are the costumes sewn
on, or can you remove them?
A- It depends on the monkey. Sometimes clothes are sewn on because the
monkey looks and feels better that way. Other times, clothes are
removable so a monkey can enjoy multiple costumes. This will be
indicated on the individual monkey page ("attached" vs. "removable"
clothing).
Q- Why do some monkeys
have white faces and others have brown faces?
A- Monkeys made with vintage-style socks ("Rockfords") generally have
white faces,
because the white toe is larger and allows for this classic style.
Monkeys made from newer socks have smaller toes, and so the faces are
brown. Most of Missus Mel'nee's sock monkeys are made from the vintage
socks.
Q- Who or What is
Daisycara? And how do you pronounce it?
A- Daisycara is the name of the business through which the adoption
center operates. It is pronounced "Daisy CHA-ra," although of course
it's not spelled that way.
